Ski or Snowboard Hakkōda, Japan

The Hakkōda in Japan is the holy grail for powder skiing in Asia. The resort is still relatively undiscovered (i.e. no crowds) place to get fresh powder. There are a couple of ungroomed "runs", but the rest of the area is one huge off-piste paradise! Hakkōda is the name of a Japanese aerial lift line that pened in 1968, the line climbs Mount Tamoyachi in the Hakkōda Mountains in Aomori. It transports skiers (and spectators) to the top of the mountain. From there skiers and boarders have a dream trip down the tree powder "runs". Hakkōda has vertical of 650 m (2,133 ft). The cable car has a passenger capacity 101 per a cabin. Japanese know of Hakkōda due to a tragic event that occured on January 23, 1902 when 199 of the 210 members of the Imperial Japanese Army's IJA 8th Division's Fifth Infantry Regiment died during a blizzard that struck while they were attempting to cross the Hakkōda Mountains from Aomori in a military training exercise.
