Ski or Snowboard Nevados de Chillán, Chile

Nevados de Chillán is a ski resort on a volcanoe in the Andes of the Bío Bío Region of Chile that in know for it's snow and lack of crowds. It is the largest ski resort in all of South America in terms of skiable area. Besides the great sking, the resort is renowned for it's natural hot springs, a perfect place to relax after a day on the slopes. The resort is located at 1,530 meters above the sea level, has 33 runs on a ski area of 10,000 hectares. It has nine lifts (including five chairs and four surfaces) with a longest run of 6.5 kms. The resort gets plenty of snow with an average snowfall of almost 400 inches (10 meters) annually. Nevados de Chillán has 1,097 meters vertical and terrain for all ability levels from beginners to experts. The terrain includes long groomed cruisers and off-piste runs on open slopes of the volcano. The ski season is typically between June 15 through October 15. The rresort is 194 km east from the Concepción city, 82 km west from Chillan city and 407 km south from Santiago city. From Santiago is accessed with vehicle by "route 5", then out of Chillan eastward in a way that skirts the Ñuble River in direction PINTO, the last 7 km are unpaved. The previous name of the resort was Termas de Chillan (it changed in 2008).
