Gebel (Jebel) al-Mawta (Mountain of the Dead), Siwa, Egypt
View Original Description
Gebel (Jebel) al-Mawta (Mountain of the Dead) contains number of tombs. The tombs, which cover every inch of its base and are situated on its terraces and on all sides of the conical part, date from the 26th dynasty.
The Tomb of Si-Amun is the most striking and important tomb at the Mountain of the Dead. It was discovered in 1940 but likely pillaged during the Roman period. It’s the resting place of Si-Amun, or man of Amon, likely an official or merchant who lived between the 3rd and 2nd century BC.
It's located a little over a kilometer to the north of Shali along the main road.
