Phantom Ranch is located on the north side of the Colorado River near its confluence with Bright Angel Creek and Phantom Creek. Built in 1922, Phantom Ranch is a member of Historic Hotels of America, the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The Ranch can only be reached by mule, by foot, or by rafting the Colorado River and is a popular stop-over point for hikers and mule riders traveling to the bottom of the Canyon via the Bright Angel or Kaibab trails. It is Open year-round.

The ranch continues to be one of the most popular destinations in the national park system; its accommodations are often sold out for a year in advance. Reservation are also required for food.
If you have made advance reservations for Phantom Ranch, YOU MUST RECONFIRM YOUR RESERVATION 2 DAYS PRIOR TO YOUR HIKE.
The walk to Phantom Ranch is approximately 7.5 miles down the South Kaibab Trail (average hiking time is 4-5 hours down) and 10 miles on the Bright Angel Trail (average hiking time down is 4-6 hours, average hiking time up is 6-10 hours).
The site now includes cabins, dormitories, a restaurant (serving only people who book meals ahead of time), a mule corral, emergency medical facilities, a ranger station, the Bright Angel Campground, a beach that is frequently visited by Colorado River rafters, and a heliport. Cottonwood trees line the creeks and shade the buildings.
Phantom Ranch offers eleven unique, rustic cabins. Each is furnished with a set of bunk beds, all bedding, cold water sink, toilet, liquid soap, and towels. Showers are provided at a central location.
Dormitories are separate for women and men -- each has ten bunk beds, a shower, and restroom.
While Phantom Ranch has no official mail service (unlike Supai, Arizona), concessionaires have traditionally transported letters and postcards via mules. Packages are excluded from this "mail" service.
Coffee is available at the side window at Phantom Ranch starting at 5:00 AM.
An NPS backcountry permit is NOT required for overnight stays at the dormitories or cabins at Phantom Ranch.
