Rifugio Averau, Dolomites, Italy
View Original Description
The Averau refuge is located in the Nuvolau saddle at 2413 meters above sea level, the saddle that divides Mount Averau from the Nuvolau. The refuge straddles the two municipalities of Cortina and Colle Santa Lucia and it is part of the 5 Torri group. There are many accesses to the Averau refuge, the most convenient can be reached with the chairlift that starts from the Giau pass, otherwise you can also go up on foot from the Giau pass following the CAI path 452 first, then following path 439 and path 433(my itinerary) or from the Falzarego pass following the path 441.
The sun that rises timidly from the peaks between the Cadini of Misurina and the Faloria, illuminates the walls of Dolomia of Mount Averau and the 5 Torri. The rays are reflected and light-hit the Averau Mountain Shelter that begins to wake up. The air is fresh and the wind is held back by the peaks where, sometimes, the daring snow resists.
Every morning the chirping of birds merges with the murmur coming from the Shelter. Every morning the chirping of birds merges with the murmur coming from the Shelter. The aroma of Margot’s freshly ground coffee mixes with the scent of homemade cakes freshly baked and, while Sandrone lights fire and stoves, Matteo get ready to descend to the valley and pick up the fresh ingredients for the day.
