In a scenic valley in Custer State Park off Route 16, this lively retreat borders a trout-fishing creek and includes a historic 1920s lodge, modern hotel rooms and cabins. The lodge offers opulent rooms with antiques, flat-screens and coffeemakers. The upscale-woodsy cabins add outdoor fire pits and picnic tables; some have full kitchens. The hotel units include minifridges and microwaves.There's a stately, fine-dining restaurant, a cozy fireside lounge/bar and a general store with gas pumps, as well as chuck-wagon cookouts. Guided wildlife-spotting jeep tours are available for a fee.
