Hike to The Gap, Puaotetai Bay, New Zealand

The Gap at Puaotetai Bay near Piha Beach, an hour west of Auckland, is a narrow low point between Taitomo Island and the cliffs opposite, where incoming waves collide at the turn of the tide providing a spectacular sight. The overflow creates a sandy swimming hole called the Blue Pool.At low tide, The Gap can be reached from the southern end of Piha Beach by walking over rocks or along the sand, or at high tide via the Tasman Lookout Track which has breath-taking panoramas of the West Coast, Piha, Puaotetai Bay and The Gap itself.
