Summit Lobuche East, Nepal

Located in the Kumbhu region of Nepal, the 20,075-foot Lobuche East (or Lobuje East) is an easier, but still challenging summit than its neighbor, Everest. Lobuche lies close to the Khumbu Glacier and has are two main peaks, Lobuche Far East and Lobuche East (often mistaken for Lobuche West which is a separate mountain further west). This is the most challenging of the peaks that are typically climbed to acclimatize in preparation for a Everest summit. The trek starts in Nāmche Bāzār village, the main trading center for the region, and passes through a lush valley to a small village called Lobuche at the base of the mountain. Most people set up camp at around 18,000 feet above the village (about an hour’s trek), then make a summit bid the next morning. The first recorded ascent of Lobuche East was made by Laurence Nielson and Sherpa Ang Gyalzen on April 25, 1984.
