Surf East Coast of Barbados (Soup Bowl)

Barbados offers the best surfing in the Caribbean. The island's location far out in the Atlantic Ocean allows waves to travel nearly three thousand miles in the open ocean to Barbados' coral reefs. The island is guaranteed to have surf somewhere along it's coast at almost any given day of the year. The East Coast is considered the top surf spot on the island, with it's large and powerful waves. Bathsheba is the main fishing village on the east coastline of Barbados. Bathsheba beach is known as the Soup Bowl where local and international surfing competitions take place annually. Another notable feature of Bathsheba beach is the large boulder that sits slightly offshore, known by some as Bathsheba Rock. “I’ve been going for over 20 years, and I’d put Soup Bowl as one of the top three waves in the world,” said Kelly Slater. “It’s got a really good curve and allows all sorts of maneuvers and airs. The only problem is that there are sea urchins all over the bottom — just don’t fall and you’re fine.”
