Cenote Aktun-Ha, better known as "Car Wash" is located in located in the Yucatan approximately 8 Km outside of Tulum, Mexico. Locals used to use the fresh water of this cenote to clean their vehicles, but Cenote Carwash is now used only for diving and snorkeling. The cenote has a deceptive entrance that leads into an amazing hidden world of spectacular light effects. Divers have an easy entrance into the water since water levels are just a few inches below ground level. For Cavern divers there are upstream and and downstream dives possible - the upstream route with its large chestnut colored columns is the most popular route. In the summer, Cenote Carwash is home to an interesting phenomenon. Microscopic algae grow near the surface of the water, giving the water an almost opaque green color.
