Swim in
Cenote Dzitnup, Yucatán, Mexico
View Original Description
Cenote Dzitnup is the most enticing of Valladolid's several cenotes (sinkholes). It's a great place to go for a swim in a large ceynote with water crystal clear and not cold. It has plenty of fish in the water indicating that it's not stagnant.
It's artificially lit and a massive limestone formation dripping with stalactites hangs from its ceiling. Some people feel the artificial lighting takes away from the cenote.
Closer to town is Cenote Samulá that has a nice cavern pool. Poplar roots stretch down from the middle of the ceiling to drink from it.
