One Mile in the Pool
View Original Description
In a 50 meter pool, a 1 mile swim is achieved by completing 32 lengths or 16 laps of the pool without stopping to rest. If the pool you are using is 25 meters long then the lengths and laps must be doubled. While not an overly long distance, a 1 mile swim will take an hour, or so to complete for most novice swimmers. Most swim coaches believe they can take even a beginning swimmer to the level of completing one mile in a pool within 6 weeks, or less, of serious training. Swimming is a great way to burn calories and working toward the goal of completing a continuous mile in a pool is a guaranteed way to improve physical fitness at the same time. Your dreams may include losing weight, competing in a 10K run or perhaps a triathlon. Adding the dream to Swim One Mile in a Pool to your list will likely help you to achieve those concurrently. No special equipment is necessary and the only prerequisites are access to a pool and the willingness to work hard toward your goal.
