Swim with
Whale Sharks on Ningaloo Reef, Western Australia
View Original Description
The Whale Shark is the ocean’s gentle giant. Known as the largest fish in the sea these creatures can grow as long as 40 feet (11 meters).
Ningaloo Reef in Western Australia is one four easily accessible places in the world where whale sharks appear in large numbers at predictable times of the year. For Ningaloo Reef this is mid-March to mid-May.
Giants they are but their diet consists of some of the smallest living things on earth, plankton, which are relatively microscopic in size compared to the massive Whale Sharks. These migratory sharks visit a number of places around the planet where warm water and a temperate climate prevail.
No cage needed for your adventure with the sharks, they have no interest in eating you, and the huge fish are famously slow swimmers, allowing for some up close and personal encounters.
Those that have had the experience says it’s as if you are on safari in a jeep in Africa and come across a herd of elephants, you are able to get out and run with the pack. Swimming alongside one of nature’s largest creatures can create memories that will last a lifetime.
