Discover The Hoover Dam Mascot

During the construction of what is now the Hoover Dam, workers found a puppy onsite who became the mascot of the dam. The mascot was friends with all the construction workers, barking whenever he wanted to hop on one of the open-aired elevators that took workers up and down the face of the dam. All the workers loved him and gave him snacks. In fact, he ate so much that he got sick. So, the workers arranged for the commissary to make the mascot a packed lunch everyday. The mascot learned to carry his lunch in his mouth on the way to work--setting his lunch down with all the other workers’ lunches and coming to eat when the lunch whistle blew. Sadly, the mascot was run over one day while he was taking a nap under a truck. That day, rough, tough, men wept openly and unashamed as they slammed their jackhammers into the hard rock cliff, carving out the grave which was to be the Hoover Dam mascot's tomb. There is a plaque that marks the spot. To this day, people say that when the wind howls around the towers of the dam, it isn’t really the wind. It’s the mascot howling for his beloved dam.
