Visit Amache National Historic Site, Granada, Colorado

Amache, also known as the Granada Relocation Center, near Granada, Colorado was one of ten incarceration sites established by the War Relocation Authority during World War II to unjustly incarcerate Japanese Americans. Over 10,000 people, most American citizens, were incarcerated at Amache from 1942-1945. Amache - a place to reflect, recommit, and further the pursuit of freedom and justice. The National Park Service is working in partnership with community stakeholders and existing site partners to plan Amache National Historic Site. During this process, the site will continue to be stewarded and maintained by the Amache Preservation Society. Currently the Amache site consists of a historic cemetery, a monument, historic concrete building foundations, an intact road network, and several reconstructed and rehabilitated structures from the World War II camp-era including a barrack, a recreation hall, a guard tower, and a water tank. There are interpretive panels and directional signs to assist visitors at the site. A self-guided driving and audio tour is also available that leads visitors to 11 points of interest on the site.Amache Preservation Society student volunteers provide interpretive tours of the site and operate a museum in the Town of Granada that features exhibits and collections of items culturally significant to Amache. To participate in a guided tour of the site or to visit the museum, please make a reservation through the Amache Preservation Society  at 719-734-5492 or by email at amache@usa.com.
