Visit Austin, Texas

Austin, Texas is the capitol city of the largest State in the 48 contiguous United States of America and is named for Stephen F. Austin, considered to be the Father of Texas. The city is located in the Hill Country of Texas and enjoys a sub-tropical climate with hot summers and mild winters. The city is situated along the Colorado River and built adjacent to 4 large lakes, providing every sort of fresh water recreation opportunity. The city is home to the University of Texas main campus and visitors to Austin join the locals in supporting the home team’s athletic events, especially college football in the fall. Austin’s official slogan is “The Live Music Capital of the World” with more live music venues per resident than any other city in the U.S.A.. “South by Southwest (SXSW)” is an annual music and film festival staged in Austin that has grown to attract tens of thousands of fans from all over the world. The festival runs for 10 days each March and is highlighted by over 2,000 performers utilizing more than 90 venues primarily in downtown Austin. The “Austin City Limits Music Festival” is held over 3 days in mid-September each year and draws a significant number of headline acts along with attendance that exceeds 70,000 per day. In a State that is thought to be quite conservative, Austinites pride themselves on their liberal political leanings and their support of the arts. At the same time, some of the best Barbecue to be found in Texas is available at many outlets in Austin. Being able to enjoy some authentic Texas barbecue before heading off to a live concert after spending the day recreating on one of the lakes that lay within the city limits sounds like it could be the stuff of which dreams are made.
