Battery Lotheringen, Le Chemin de Noirmont, Jersey
View Original Description
Naval Battery Lotheringen, Noirmont Point, Jersey, Channel Islands, 23 June 2022. Following the German invasion and subsequent occupation of the Channel Islands in 1940, an extensive number of defensive bunkers was constructed by slave labour as part of Hitler’s Atlantic Wall to combat the expected Allied invasion of Europe but in the event the guns on the Channel Islands were never used and they were surrendered peacefully on 9 – 16 May 1945.
Battery Lotheringen was a formidable complex of gun, control, observation, magazine and personnel bunkers built at Noirmont Point. Pictured is the concrete platform of Gun No.3, a Krupp 15cm SK L45 naval gun (one of four installed in the battery).
