Visit
Beijing, China
View Original Description
The capital of the people’s republic of China, Beijing is filled with cultural and historical places to visit. Thanks to the 2008 Olympics, the city has become much easier to navigate for westerners since there is now English signage and announcements in the updated subways. Speaking of the Olympics, make sure to visit the Olympic Park, and leave an afternoon free to visit the Water Cube. The scene of Michael Phelps' historic victories now includes a fantastic water park, with slides, and a wave pool.
You can also check out the Great Wall of China, but one of the first places you’ll likely visit is the Forbidden City. This was the political center of China for five centuries. For those interested in more recent history be sure to check out the 90-year old Beijing Zoo. Not only is it one of the largest in China, but also it has over 450 species and houses over 5,000 animals including pandas, milu deer, northeast tigers, and golden monkeys.
