Visit Birkat Al-Mawz, Oman

Birkat Al-Mawz is a ghost town located onthe road from Muscat to Nizwa in Oman. It was abandoned in 1959, right after the Jebel Akhdar campaign. The Al Hajar Mountains are full of abandoned villages, but Birkat al Mawz is possibly the largest, and definitely the easiest to explore. Part of the village still functions, so any dwellings that cower in the shade of Jebel Akhdar is urged not to bother the residents.
