Blackstone Valley Visitor Center (Pawtucket), Rhode Island
View Original Description
The Blackstone Valley Visitor Center was the first visitor center opened on the Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor. The center, in addition to housing the offices of the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council, acts as a one-stop information resource for visitors and residents alike.
The Visitor Center and its ninety-seat theater offers a compelling twenty-minute film retracing the area's mill history and its impact on development of the Blackstone River Valley, as well as visitor services, gallery, gift shop and exhibits. The Center also interprets the history of the development of the American Industrial Revolution begun in 1793 by Samuel Slater, across the street from the Visitor Center, at the Slater Mill Historic Site.
