Boston was the location of a number of significant events during the American Revolution in the 18th Century including the Boston Tea Party and the Boston Massacre. Important battles were fought within the city and the surrounding countryside and visitors to Boston find the monuments, museums and exhibitions compelling places to be visited. Boston is a very accessible city due to its small size and boasts one of the America’s first historic walking tours, The Freedom Trail. The Freedom Trail allows for a self-paced examination of many of the favorite historical sites within the city, including Boston Common, Granary Burying Ground, the site of the U.S.A.’s first public school and Ben Franklin’s statue, the Boston Massacre site, Faneuil Hall, Paul Revere House, the Old North Church and the Bunker Hill Monument among others compelling spots. Boston prides itself on its museums and visitors can find dedicated exhibitions for Fire Fighters, The Commonwealth of Massachusetts, historic New England, John F. Kennedy, African Americans, Science, Paul Revere and the U.S.S Constitution among its many varied offerings.
A 7 time Major League Baseball world champion, the Boston Red Sox, make their home in iconic Fenway Park, the oldest major league baseball stadium currently in use. Tours of the historic structure are available even if you’re unable to see a game. Among the city’s other professional sports teams, the NBA’s Boston Celtics and the NHL’s Boston Bruins have storied resume’s that also attract fans from all over the world. Beer lovers can tour the Samuel Adams Brewery in Boston and sample a few of the award winning beers. Boston and it’s surrounds are home to world famous educational centers including Harvard University, Boston College, MIT and Tufts University, just to name a few. The city is also famous for its cuisine and world famous clam chowder.
