Visit Caisson Cave, Peleliu, Palau

The ammunition storage facility contains ten original Japanese horse-drawn artillery field carriages still in-situ from WWII. A total of 7 different types of carriage, including caissons and the smaller limbers, have been identified all with their 55 inch metal rims for the wooden wheels surviving. These battery wagons were used to transport predominantly 75mm Projectiles and other equipment to the fighting positions on the nearby Bloody Nose Ridge 1944 battlefield. Cleared Ground Demining Teams has removed some 39 now deteriorating and still dangerous 75mm projectiles, as well other ordnance including Type 91 hand grenades and 20mm anti tank projectiles.
