Visit Calypso Cave, Malta
Calypso Caveis located near Xagħra, Malta. The cave overlooking Ramla Bay has been associated by many authors with the Homeric legendary epic the ODYSSEY. It gained this ascription during the late seventeenth and early nineteenth centuries when interest in the island of Gozo was increased following the discovery of the Ġgantija Temples in Xagħra and interest in the classical literature was revamped. Voyagers following the Grand Tour were also always in search of places connected with classical texts and this cave started to be visited by visitors to the island. The cave commands one of the most beautiful views of Gozo with the sandy beach of Ramla Bay and the fertile valleys beyond.
