View Original Description
Once a major port town Cesme is now a thriving summer holiday destination. Located on the west coast of Turkey and on the Aegean Sea it also has some of the longest beaches on the Aegean coast. The turquoise sea is ideal for water sports such as sailing and diving. Cesme is also known as a windy destination making it an ideal spot to do some kite surfing or windsurfing. There are also plenty of natural bays in Cesme that are perfect for swimming. After a long day at the beach there’s still plenty to do at night from fine dining to going dancing.
In addition to its long stretches of white sand beaches, Cesme is also well known for its thermal baths and Ottoman fountains. In fact, in Turkish the word Cesme means fountain. One of the more beautiful Ottomans is next to the Cesme Castle. The Ottoman Caravanseria built in the 15thcentury has been restored and is actually incorporated into a boutique hotel. When visiting the castle it’s worthwhile to try and see it. To get a better idea of the Ottoman architecture stroll down the back streets of town to see Ottoman and Greek houses.
The city has the following festivals:
Alacati Greenery Festival– April
Cesme Music Festival – July
Babylon Alacati – June and July
