Visit Chiesa della Madonna delle Vergini, Matera, Italy
The Madonna delle Vergini is a rock church located in the Murgia Materana, on the opposite side of the Gravina stream from the Sassi of Matera.
The church is easily reached from the Appian Way with a short detour. There is no certain information about its origins, but it is the only rock church still in use, with celebrations for the Virgin taking place on the last Sunday of May.
