Christchurch is the largest city in the South Island of New Zealand, and the country's second-largest urban area. The city is found about one-third of the way down the South Island's east coast, just north of Banks Peninsula and is oldest established city in New Zealand. The Church of the Good Shepherd in Phillipstown, Christchurch, New Zealand is the oldest and only surviving brick church designed by famous architect Benjamin Mountfort and is registered as a "Historic Place – Category I" by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust.
The Canterbury Museum is located in Christchurch's Cultural Precinct. The museum was established in 1867 and has developed to encompass New Zealand's diverse natural and human heritage. The Museum has become a widely-renowned and an internationally-visited institution with more than two million collection items while focusing on the stories of early Maori, European settlement and Antarctic exploration.
