The Cimetière Furcone is a cemetery located on the Lavezzi Islands. The cemetery contains graves from the wreck of the La Sémillante. La Sémillante was a French first - class frigate built in Toulon in 1820 and wrecked off the island of Lavezzi on February 15, 1855. The Semillante left Toulon on 14 February 1855 with destination Odessa in the Crimea to bring aid to the French army present because of the war. The commander was Gabriel Auguste Jugan (? 1802 - Lavezzi, February 15, 1855). On the morning of 15 February the vessel was caught in a storm as she attempted to pass through the Bocche di Bonifacio . At about 12.00 she crashed on the rocks west of the island of Lavezzi between Corsica and Sardinia. 695 men perished in the shipwreck: 560 bodies rest in the two cemeteries on the island of Lavezzi while 32 are buried elsewhere, the others were never found.
