Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, Thailand
View Original Description
Damnoen Saduak is a town in central Thailand that is most famous because of its floating market held every day till noon on a khlong not far from the district office. However as it has become a prime tourist attraction of the Bangkok vicinity the market has lost its authenticity.
The market has wooden boats overflowing with fruit and vegetables, which they sell to people standing on land. The scene is colorful and loud and offers great photo opportunities.
Just 100km (1+ hr drive) from Bangkok, it’s best accessed by package tour, which any local tour operator can organize. Recommend by private a/c car (especially during hot weather). Many of the tours take 2-3 hours and some include elephant ride and seeing the monkeys.
Once you get to the town, many of the tour operators will say there no other way to the floating market than boarding a boat from the pier which costs 1,000 baht per boat. However you can take a yellow cab there for only 10 baht. You can walk through the market! And once you are there you may pick a paddle boat for just 150 baht.
