Visit Deep Springs Lake, Deep Springs, California

Spring-fed pond along Deep Springs Fault zone, view south along base of the Lake Mountains east of Deep Springs Lake, elevation 1510 m (4950 ft), Yashica Rangefinder fixed-lens camera, scanned at 4000 dpi with a Nikon Coolscan 5000, and restored using Corel Paintshop Pro X4. This pond is located along the section of greatest recent displacement of the Deep Springs Fault. The alluvial fault scarps immediately behind the pond reflect 12 m (40 ft) or more of vertical drop within the past several centuries or couple of millennia. The steep triangular facets set farther back into the mountains are the erosional remains of more ancient movements along this roughly 10 million year old fault zone.
