Visit Deggaron Mosque, Hazara, Uzbekistan

Deggaron Mosque is one of the earliest surviving Islamic religious buildings on the territory of modern Uzbekistan. This mosque is situated 30 kilometers from the city of Navoi near the village of Hazara. It is assumed that the building was erected at the end of the 11th century or, possibly, at the beginning of the 12th century. The uniqueness of the mosque also lies in the unusual architectural style, more typical of religious buildings of the pre-Islamic period and reminiscent of the structure of Zoroastrian temples, which were also characterized by a central-domed system, supported by four load-bearing pillars, a similar architectural solution is inherent in early Christian churches. The Deggaron Mosque is active. The building of the mosque was restored, a historical complex was created on the territory adjacent to it, including a museum of local lore. The complex also houses a khanaka and the tombstone of Sheikh Arif Deggaroni, who is considered one of the mentors of Bahauddin Naqshband.
