Visit Echo Bay, Nevada

You might be surprised to hear that this bay played a role in the naming of online auction marketplace, eBay. Pierre Omidyar, founder of eBay, used to frequent the Echo Bay marina before it closed in 2013 and was said to have a fondness for the area. When asked about the reason behind the name choice he said that Echo Bay "just sounded cool." The Web address echobay.com was already taken by a Canadian mining company at the time, so he went with his second choice, eBay.com. Crazy, right? Located on the eastern shore of the Overton Arm, the northern portion of Lake Mead, the bay does not have a marina anymore, but it still has a campground run by the National Park Service and an excellent boat ramp.
