Camp at Gillespies Beach, Westland National Park (Te Wahipounamu), New Zealand

Gillespies Beach is a very isolated, beautiful black rock beach littered with driftwood that is a 21 km drive from Fox Glacier in Westland National Park (Te Wahipounamu), New Zealand. The last 20 minutes are on an unpaved road. The beach has five walks (10 mins to 3.5 hours) which allow visitors to explore the area no matter how much time they have available. Tracks lead to historic suction and bucket dredges, and Galway Beach. Camp near an old gold mining settlement and a seal colony. There are 8 non-powered/tent sites. Dogs with a DOC permit only. Contact the relevant DOC office to obtain a permit.
