Gumdiggers park is an authentic, preserved gumfield over 100 years old and tells the story of early settlers extracting kauri gum ( NZ Amber ) from northern New Zealand. Ancient Kauri trees buried in the ground by still unknown natural events can be seen, one tree discovered in 2011 is around 120,000 years old.
The park is also a nature reserve with some very rare plants and wildlife resident.
Park is dog-friendly (dogs on leash allowed to go through the park).
