Honolulu is the most populous city in the State of Hawaii and encompasses the entire island of Oahu with its over 1 million inhabitants. Honolulu is a diverse city with an interesting blend of East and West, old and new, laid-back lifestyles and world-class luxury. Most visitors to Honolulu are drawn to its famous beaches but the city is also home to the only palace in the United States, Iolani Palace, the world’s largest collection of Polynesian artifacts found at the Bishop Museum, it’s very authentic Chinatown and family activities including the Waikiki Aquarium, Honolulu Zoo and Kapiolani Park. World War II broke out for America at Honolulu’s Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial dedicated to the memory of the service personnel that died on that fateful December morning is a compelling place to visit. Diamond Head crater, perhaps one of the most photographed spots in the world and the Nuuanu Pali viewpoint are easily accessible from the hotels and certainly worth touring. In addition to famous Waikiki Beach there are numerous beaches scattered around the island that are worthy of a visit, some famous in surfing lore, such as Waimea Bay, Pipeline, Sunset Beach and Ala Moana Beach Park. A day of snorkeling in Huanama Bay on Honolulu’s East side will provide for the ability to get up close and personal with multitudes of brightly colored tropical fish prevalent among the coral reef.
