Visit Hoover Dam Visitor Center, Nevada

Offering presentations, exhibits and an observation deck, the Hoover Dam Visitor Center is a great place to learn about the Dam whether you are interested in taking a tour or not. Tickets for Visitor Center Admission allow entry into the Visitor Center WITHOUT access to the dam and powerplant tours. Hours: Daily 9 AM - 5 PM Location: 81 Hoover Dam Access Rd Boulder City, NV 89005 Contact: (702) 494-2517 TIPS: Busy season is in Summer from Memorial Day until Labor Day. Slowest months for visiting are January and February. Least crowded times of day are from opening until 10:30 AM, and from 3:00 PM until closing. Traffic around the dam is heavy around holidays and on weekends. Arrive no later than 2:00 PM in order to have time to enjoy the entire site. Due to periodic elevator malfunctions or unscheduled maintenance issues, Hoover Dam tours may not always be available. Visitor Center admissions are available at all times. The Hoover Dam Vor Center and the Powerplant Tour are wheelchair/scooter accessible. The Dam tour is NOT accessible by wheelchair or scooter. Guests with wheelchairs, strollers and other mobility equipment can enter the Visitor Center one floor below street level. Look for the elevator set into the canyon wall a few yards past the escalator entrance. Presentations and Exhibits: Theater Level Displays- Intro to Hoover Dam (maps, photos) Theater- A 10-minute film describes the contributions of Hoover Dam to the developing West and the massive construction effort behind the engineering marvel Exhibit Gallery- Audio, video and interactive exhibits, including a full-scale model of the huge buckets used to move concrete during construction, a walkthrough model of a generator, and a detailed diorama of the dam. Also featured are interactive exhibits that test your skill at managing power generation, conservation and more Observation Deck- Open and enclosed observation areas providing panoramic views of Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, the Colorado River and other stunning features. Includes outdoor audio presentation about the dam and surrounding areas. Outside of the Visitor Center: Winged Figures of the Republic- Bronze sculptures located across the street from the Visitor Center. Features a presentation about the artist and concepts behind the works, including details related to the star map at its base. Old Exhibit Building- Originally used as a headquarters for soldiers protecting the dam during World War II, this building served as the dam’s first visitor center. Educational exhibits are offered inside. Nevada and Arizona Spillways- On each side of the dam (toward the lake) are huge spillways designed to direct high water from Lake Mead around the dam and through tunnels in the canyon walls. The spillways are so large that a WWII battleship can float through each one! Nevada Intake Towers- On top of the Nevada side of the dam, an audio presentation offers info about the role these towers perform in the dam’s generation process. You can also view artwork incorporated into the towers. Top of the Dam- Walk along the sidewalks on top of the dam for awe-inspiring views of the dam face, Lake Mead, intake towers, the Colorado River and other features.
