Il Santuario Ritrovato, San Casciano dei Bagni, Italy
View Original Description
Il Santuario Ritrovato is a archaeological thermal sanctuary, first Etruscan and then Roman, probably dedicated to Apollo. Thousands of coins have been found, travertine altars, columns, anatomical votive offerings (in the shape of legs, wombs, penises) and a beautiful bronze child from the Hellenistic period. Excavations will continue and a museum will be created in a 1500s building in the historic center of San Casciano.
