Istanbul, Turkey (UNESCO sites)
View Original Description
Known for its Byzantine and Ottoman architecture that can be seen throughout the city, Istanbul is a thriving a metropolis. Throughout the centuries people have looked to Istanbul as a place that blends the European and Asian cultures with style. It’s home to plenty of historically significant landmarks and four historic areas have been named a UNESCO World Heritage site: the Archealogical Park, the Süleymaniye quarter, the Zeyrek quarter, and the zone of the ramparts.
Also known as the City of the World’s Desire, Istanbul is quickly becoming a must-see destination with its hip bars, fine dining, art galleries, and vibrant nightlife. There’s clearly a reason Istanbul was chosen as a European Capital of Culture for 2010. It’s easy to check out historical sites such as the Sultan Ahmet Mosque (a.k.a. Blue Mosque) or visit the Grand Bazaar during the day and experience the vibrant nightlife of the 21st century in the nightclubs of Beyoglu.
