View Original Description
Studnisko (also Jaskinia Głęboka) – the deepest cave in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. It is located on Sokola Góra. in the Sokole Góry reserve near Olsztyn.
The cave's entrance is located in a small rock niche measuring 4 × 5 m. In its southern part, there is an exposed, horizontally located, oval opening measuring 1 × 1.5 m, under which there is a vertical well 28 m deep. Exploring the cave requires the use of a rope, specialist equipment and skills in using it. The cave's entrance is dangerous, it is possible to fall into it. For this reason, it has been fenced with a wooden fence and marked with signs prohibiting entry.
The cave is 75.5 m deep. It contains one of the largest chambers of the Jura, at least the highest one. Below the opening there is another cave called Pod Sokołą Górą (Pochyła), 16 m deep and 150 m long. According to the preserved information, the first person in Studnisko was a spatowiec (calcite prospector ) named Dyński from Olsztyn, who was lowered to the bottom using a winch in 1907.
The stud is a winter shelter for hibernating bats and is one of the most important places of this type in Poland.
