Judge Roy Bean Museum and Travel Information Center, Langtry, Texas
View Original Description
This former saloon was the domain of infamous Judge Roy Bean. In the 1880's Bean showed up in Langtry, where the railroad had bought property with the explicit proviso that he could not buy or lease it. So he squatted, running his Jersey Lilly saloon/courthouse illegally on the railroad's right of way. Today, the Jersey Lilly and the opera house Bean built in honor of his long-distance, unrequited (and one-sided) romance with English singer Lillian Langtry, combine to create the Judge Roy Bean Visitor Center, a Texas Department of Transportation rest stop.
