Koh Surin Nuea is the northernmost island in Thailand’s Surin Islands collection in the Adaman Sea. The archipelago is well known to divers and snorkelers as one of the best locations in the world to pursue those sports in sheltered bays with pristine coral reefs and expansive white sand beaches. The five islands that make up the Surin Islands lie within the protected Mo Ku Surin National Park. Koh Surin Nuea also possesses terrain that is attractive to hikers and camping or staying in bungalows on the island is the form of accommodations offered to those wanting to spend more than a day exploring and enjoying the idyllic setting. Koh Suring Nuea contains a village of “Sea Gypsies”, an endemic tribe of about 150 residents that live on boats holding to an ancient way of life. An annual 3 day festival time to coincide with the moon’s cycle around the month of April attracts visitors that are curious about the Sea Gypsy lifestyle and culture.
