Visit La Savane des Esclaves, Trois-Îlets, Martinique

La Savane des Esclaves is located near Trois-Îlets, Martinique. This historical museum preserves and promotes the heritage of the island. This site is not primarily dedicated to slavery. It presents a look at the beauty of the island. Each restored house is devoted to certain information. In one of the boxes, it is explained how pressing the cane to extract the juice using a rudimentary wine press, in another pound how the cocoa bean to make chocolate, yet another is dedicated to presentation of herbs. Les Trois-Îlets is a town and commune in the French overseas department of Martinique. It was the birthplace of Joséphine (1763–1814), who married Napoleon Bonaparte and became Empress of the French.
