Deep in the heart of Kentucky’s Bluegrass Region is found the city of Lexington. The area is famous for its fertile soil, Thoroughbred horse training facilities and rolling pastureland. Known as the “Horse Capital of the World”, the city provides an eclectic mix of historic sites, attractions, dining and entertainment. The State Botanical Garden of Kentucky is located in Lexington as is the Railroad Museum and the Kentucky Horse Park that allows for visitors to get up close and personal with champion Thoroughbreds. Iconic Keeneland Race Course is located in Lexington and you can see thoroughbred racing at Keeneland every April and October.
Though surrounded by nearly 500 horse farms, Lexington is quite the cosmopolitan city. The historic downtown area is home to a pleasing mix of art galleries, theaters, restaurants and charming residential neighborhoods. Just outside the city center you will find historic settings with picturesque Bourbon distilleries, some operating for hundreds of years and a young, vibrant winemaking culture. This fast growing city has made a special effort to preserve its agrarian roots and has set aside much of the surrounding countryside for just that purpose.
