Visit Little Shell Beach, Padre Island National Seashore, Texas

Little Shell Beach (locally referred to simply as "Little Shell") extends from approximately seven miles from the southern boundary of Closed Beach to the twelve mile point. The seashells making up Little Shell beach are mostly common arks, coquina, and cockles, which are smaller than the shells found at Big Shell a little farther south. Little Shell Beach is located where northerly long shore currents meets South Beach. The northerly current deposits little shells on the beach and is north of Big Shell Beach. Shells found at both locations are usually of very common types. Both beaches tend to have very loose sand making driving normally difficult.
