Visit Maldives

The Maldives Islands look like a picture perfect postcard with its bright turquoise lagoons and white sand beaches. Visiting these islands can be a tropical paradise. It should be a destination for anyone passionate about diving. Located in the Indian Ocean southwest of Sri Lanka, the Maldives Islands are comprised of a cluster of coral reef islands (also called Atolls). The coral reefs are home to an extensive marine life with over 300 types of fish, turtles, crustaceans, and more. In fact, the Baa Atoll has been named a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve in 2011. Located on the southern edge of the North Malé Atoll, the capital of Maldives’ and its largest city is Malé. Incidentally, it happens to be one island that does not have a natural beach. It does, however, have an artificial beach. That said, there are plenty of beaches on other islands. Out of the 200 inhabited islands there are 44 islands that are strictly resorts with plenty of outdoor activities available such as fishing, diving, snorkeling, and more. The people of the Maldives are extremely creative. Be sure to check out some of the crafts on the islands – especially the woven mats. The following events and festivals occur on the islands: Maldives Independence Day – July 26 Eid Ul Adha -10th day of Thul Hijjah Kuda Eid - 1st day in the month of Shawaal Maldives National Day - 1st of Rabee ul Awwal Prophet Mohammad's Birthday - 12th day of Rabee-ul-Awwal Ramadan - ninth month of Muslim calendar
