Mārahau is a very small settlement in the Tasman Region of the South Island of New Zealand, approximately 19 kilometres (12 mi) north of Motueka. Its location on Tasman Bay and at the southern entrance of Abel Tasman National Park makes it a popular holiday destination for those keen on outdoor activities. People access the Able Tasman from Mārahau by tramping, kayaking and water taxi. In Mārahau itself, the beach offers sheltered and safe swimming, and horse trekking is popular throughout the busy summer season. Abel Tasman Centre is located in Marahauo. They offer one day and multi-day hiking, kayaking and scenic cruises in the park. They also have a general store, the Marahau Beach Camp and sumptuous waterfront dining at Hooked on Marahau. The Marahau Beach Camp is located 100 meters from the beach and next to the departure point for the activities in the Abel Tasman National Park. We're also across the road from the general store and Hooked on Marahau, the waterfront cafe and beer garden. Our small, quiet camp has spacious sites between mature trees, most of which are powered. We also have cabins and a backpacker lodge. Facilities include a kitchen, laundry, showers, a kid's play area, BBQs and wireless internet access. The Marahau Beach Camp has 5 cabins available for booking throughout the whole year. These comfortable, compact, one roomed spaces, sleep either 4 or 5 on one double and 2 or 3 singles (bunks). All cabins have their own kitchen with utensils, a hob, jug, fridge and dining table. (Linen is available for an additional charge). All cabins share a bathroom facility and have a car parking space right in front. Please note, the hot water for showers is coin activated using $1 coins. The Marahau Beach Camp Backpacker Lodge is a standalone, fully contained lodge. It has one private double room and two dorm rooms that sleep 5 and 8, bathrooms, a laundry, fully equipped kitchen, dinning and lounge areas, TV and BBQ. The Backpacker Lodge is also available for sole occupancy bookings; ideal for large family or small school groups.
