Off-road to Montague Mine, California

Montague Mine (elevation of 10,961) has a nice stone cabin in the Sweetwater Mountains that straddle the border of Nevada and California. Patterson Mining District was formed in 1880's. Between 1880 and 1884, $500,000, $13M in 2021 value, was produced in the district. By 1888 only one mine remained active. Prospecting and limited mining resumed between 1900 and the 1930s. Guy Montague owned the mine and built the cabin between 1937 and 1939. Order L-208 closed non-war-related mining during WWII. Due to the low grade of silver, it was not reopened following the war.
