The National Museum of African American Music (NMAAM) tells a comprehensive story about the impact African Americans have made on American culture through music.
The museum’s permanent collection reflects the culture of African Americans and their music history. Its holdings include: instruments, stage costumes, sheet music, recording equipment, and photographs. These artifacts, objects, and memorabilia have been studied and interpreted for use in the museum’s permanent exhibitions to help tell the story of the many music genres and styles created, influenced, and/or inspired by African Americans.
