Necropolis of Sas Arzolas de Goi, Oristano, Sardinia, Italy
View Original Description
The necropolis of Sas Arzolas de Goi is an archaeological site located a short distance from the town of Nughedu Santa Vittoria, in the historical region of Barigadu, central Sardinia. Situated partly on a trachytic hill and partly in a boulder untouched by quarrying, it consists of seven multi-chambered domus de janas.
The site's main interest lies in the presence of decorations made with red ochre and several bull protomes carved into the rock. The necropolis is also enriched by numerous architectural elements such as pilasters, pillars, cornices, and niches, as well as a "hearth" carved into the floor.
The site, chronologically attributable to the period between the final Neolithic ( Ozieri culture, 3200-2800 BC) and the Eneolithic (2600 BC), has been the subject of archaeological investigations by the archaeologist Giuseppa Tanda.
