The New Zealand cemetery of Nessadiou is a cemetery located in Nessadiou (a detached district of Bourail) in New Caledonia , where homage is paid to all New Zealand soldiers who died in World War II. The New Zealand cemetery, located south of Bourail on the edge of RT1 between the Boghen branch and the Arab cemetery is open to visitors. During operations against the Japanese in the South Pacific, New Zealand forces suffered many casualties. InJanuary 1943, is created in Bourail a cemetery for these soldiers, on a ground generously offered by Charles Goussard. 242 soldiers are buried in Nessadiou in the New Zealand cemetery and 449 names are inscribed on a monument erected in memory of those fallen in combat. The memory of the missing is celebrated on ANZAC Day, each year, onApril 25.
