A small Greek island in the Aegean Sea, Patmos has a history rich in Christian scripture. Mentioned in the Book of Revelation in the New Testament, Patmos was where John the Apostle had a vision of Jesus in a cave that is frequently visited my Christian pilgrims that make their way to the idyllic island. Patmos boasts beautiful, sandy beaches, many of which are secluded, charming picturesque villages along with unspoiled forests and impressive rock formations. There are several monasteries and churches on the island that attract architectural interest. Traditional Greek Tavernas and restaurants are found in the villages along with a good selection of hotels.
Visitors wishing to visit Patmos most often fly into the airports on Samos, Kos or Leros Islands and then take a hydrofoil or ferry to reach Patmos. The island is also on ferry routes from Mykonos, Agathonissi, Pythagoreio and the main port in Athens, Piraeus along with other locations scattered about the Greek isles.
